False Alarm...

Do your kids ever embarrass you so badly that you wish you could climb in a hole & die? But yet, all you can do is laugh hysterically? :0)

Well, the other day I needed to drop something off to my mom. She is a secretary at the elementary school. Since Averee was at school I only had to handle Adee & Owen-simple right? No problem. Famous last words...

We get to the elementary school & everything is going great. My mom is of course super excited to see us & spoil the kids with candy (right before lunch I might add). In between keeping Owen's hands off all the enticing things he can't touch, we were just chatting away, enjoying each others company. Next thing I know we hear an alarm go off-of course I panic & look for Owen. Yup-guilty! There he is all sweet & innocent standing under the fire alarm. Yes-he pulled the fire alarm! AAHHH! I run over & grab him-look at my mom & say "tell me he didn't just set off the fire alarm?!" But she is too busy laughing! At least someone else found this amusing! Everything is immediately a blur of activity: my mom has to call the fire department so they don't actually show up, the janitor has to reset the alarm, & the other secretary has to go outside with all the kids & teachers, cuz of course you can't just turn off the fire alarm- the whole school is now having a surprise fire alarm drill. Oh my! Seriously! I was SO embarrassed! I am sure my face was bright red & I was sweating bullets. But all I could do is laugh! What a lunatic! (I have come to realize that is my defense mechanism-to either laugh or try make everyone else laugh.) Anyway-everyone was really cool about it & thought it was so funny. Plus, they kept reassuring me that they were supposed to have one during the first two weeks of school anyway. Hopefully they weren't just saying that. :0) Wow-but the whole time Owen is just going along like it's no big deal & looking around like 'why is everyone running around all crazy?!' Gotta love curious little boys!

That is an experience I won't soon forget! Sorry mom, but it might be awhile before I dare visit you at work again...:0)

HAHAHAA! That is good! I love it! I bet the students were so happy to get out of learning and have an unexpected fire drill anyway! ;)

Oh my word! That is hysterical! I can TOTALLY see one of my boys doing that- something to watch out for. Oh, and as a former teacher- we really do have to have at least 4 fire drills a year, so at least the school got one over with. That will make a great story to tell for years to come!

Marv, that is hilarious. I love when you write things out like this, because I can totally see exactly what is happening and exactly what you look like when you're telling the story. I love it. I only wish I was there to join in the laughter.

THAT was a good story, Marv. Oh, I'm still laughing... sorry that it's at your expense, but wow, that's good. Chalk one more story up to the 'most embarrassing moments' list. I find that it's good to keep that list well stocked anyhow....

Go Owen!!! That is a great story. Now I know to keep Easton clear of such temptations .:)

I would have died if Kaleb would have done something like that! I wouldn't put it past him from doing something like that at some point in life. Sounds like you did a great job of handling it. I would have been mortified. Glad we can stay in touch by blogging now!

What Owen did was seriously FUNNY! I bet Shannon didn't have any sympathy for you. : ) So your girls are so beautiful. I am having a love hate relationship looking at them. They look so grown up and of course I want them to stay little. But I must say I am excited to see what Adi pulls out over the next few years...you'll be very busy between her and Owen. : )

Too funny! I can totally picture you and your mom just chatting away in the good ol' Santa Clara Elem. office while your little one pulled the alarm. That is the best story! Bet the school kids loved it!
